TIPPERS

Tipper for Sale in Nigeria: Tokunbo, Fairly Used and Foreign Used

Search for a tipper in Nigeria and you’ll see the same truck described three ways. Here’s what each usually means.

Term

How it’s commonly used

Tokunbo

An imported used vehicle. The word comes from Yoruba and is often translated as “from across the sea”.

Fairly used

A second-hand vehicle, used in contrast with a brand-new one. It often refers to an import.

Foreign used

A used vehicle brought in from another country, rather than one that’s already been used in Nigeria.

None of these terms tells you what condition a truck is in. A Tokunbo tipper can be well looked after, or it can be worn out. Every truck still needs checking on its own merits, which is exactly what the next sections cover.

Tippers work across Nigeria on:

  • construction sites and estate building
  • road projects
  • sand haulage
  • granite and quarry work
  • laterite, gravel and aggregates
  • mining and general bulk transport

Used Tipper for Sale in Nigeria: What to Check

When you’re looking at a used tipper for sale in Nigeria, the tipping gear matters as much as the engine. Ask for these on video:

  • The body going up and down, with no jerking or sagging halfway
  • The hydraulic ram, with no weeping oil or scored chrome
  • The PTO and pump, engaging cleanly
  • The chassis rails, with no cracks near the ram mount or behind the cab
  • Suspension and axles, looking for broken leaves, bent parts or uneven tyre wear
  • The body floor and sides, checking for patches, holes and heavy dents

Signs of overloading, such as sagging springs or a twisted chassis, are a reason to walk away.

On spec: 6×4 and 8×4 are the usual choices for heavy work. Payload, body size, engine output, gearbox and ground conditions should decide it, not the badge.

Cost of Tipper in Nigeria

The cost of a tipper in Nigeria depends on the truck and on what it takes to get it to you. We won’t publish a figure that could be wrong by the time you read it.

What moves the price:

  • make, model and year
  • axle layout
  • body size and material
  • engine power
  • condition and service history

Then add the landed cost:

  • shipping from the UK
  • Nigerian customs duty and levies
  • port and terminal charges
  • clearing agent fees
  • transport from the port to your site

Ask us for the price of a specific tipper. Your clearing agent can estimate the Nigerian charges.

DAF

DAF Trucks for Nigeria: 95 XF, 85 CF and 75

DAF names confuse a lot of buyers, because the same truck family has been badged several ways over the years.

Model

What it is

Commonly used as

95 XF

DAF’s heavy flagship from the late 1990s, later developed into the XF95 and XF105

Long-haul tractor unit

85 CF

DAF’s mid-to-heavy range, later badged CF85

Tipper, tractor unit or heavy rigid

75

A lighter model in the same family, later badged CF75

Rigid, lighter tipper

Many of these trucks are old now, so the individual truck matters far more than the model name. Ask your clearing agent to confirm the import requirements for the truck you’re considering before you buy.

DAF 95 XF Price in Nigeria

The price of a DAF 95 XF in Nigeria depends on its year, engine, mileage, condition and the cost of shipping and clearing it. Because the 95 XF is an older model, good examples are harder to find in the UK. We may suggest a later XF with a similar setup instead.

DAF 85 CF Price in Nigeria

A DAF 85 CF’s price comes down to year, engine rating, axle layout, body and condition, plus the landed cost. Many 85 CF and CF85 trucks were built as tippers, so body and hydraulic condition count heavily in the value.

DAF 75 for Sale in Nigeria

Looking for a DAF 75 for sale in Nigeria? Send us the year range and body type you want. We’ll check UK stock and sourcing options, and tell you honestly if a later CF75 would be easier to find.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Importing a Used Truck into Nigeria

Import and registration rules can change, and they can differ by vehicle type and age. Before you commit to a truck, ask your clearing agent to confirm:

  • the current import requirements for that truck
  • the customs duty and levies that apply
  • what’s needed to register it and put it to work

We’ll send you the truck’s details and documents so your agent has everything they need to check.

SHIPPING TO NIGERIA

Shipping Used Trucks from the UK to Nigeria

Vehicles arrive in Nigeria by sea, not over land borders. The usual route:

  • UK side: we collect the truck, prepare the documents and arrange port handling.
  • The crossing: the truck is shipped, usually roll-on/roll-off, to a Nigerian seaport.
  • Nigeria side: your clearing agent handles customs, duties and release.
  • Last leg: the truck is driven or carried to your yard.

What affects the cost:

  • the truck’s size and type
  • the shipping method
  • the destination port
  • current freight rates
  • port charges and documentation

Ask us for a quote on the truck you’ve chosen.

NIGERIA MARKET

Trucks for Businesses Across Nigeria

Around Lagos, tippers feed a steady stream of building and road projects, and rigids handle city distribution. In Ogun State, quarries turn out granite that tippers carry across the south-west. Port Harcourt and the Niger Delta have their own mix of construction and industrial haulage. In the north, around Kano and Kaduna, trucks move grain and goods over long distances. Abuja’s construction work runs on tippers and crane trucks.

RPC Trading is based in the UK, with no office or yard in Nigeria. We deal with buyers anywhere in the country by WhatsApp, phone and email.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Used Trucks for Sale Nigeria: Your Questions

Where can I find used trucks for sale in Nigeria?

Local dealers and online listings are the usual starting point, and importing directly is another option. RPC Trading lists its UK stock online and sells to Nigerian buyers, which gives you foreign used trucks with visible history and video before you pay.

Tokunbo is a common Nigerian term for an imported used vehicle. It says where the truck came from, not what condition it’s in, so every Tokunbo truck still needs checking individually

The two are often used interchangeably, but not always. “Fairly used” usually just means second-hand, while “foreign used” means imported. Neither term guarantees condition

We supply used tippers subject to availability, mainly 6×4 and 8×4 trucks for construction, quarry and sand work. Check the stock page or send us your spec.

It depends on the truck’s make, year, axles, body and condition, plus shipping, customs duty, port fees and clearing. We price each truck individually. A clearing agent can estimate the Nigerian charges.

It varies with the year, engine, mileage and condition, plus the landed cost. The 95 XF is an older model, so good ones are scarcer. We can also suggest a later XF

The price depends on the year, engine rating, axle layout, body and condition, and on shipping and clearing costs. Many were built as tippers, so check the hydraulics as well as the engine.

Yes. RPC Trading sells used trucks to buyers in Nigeria and helps arrange shipping by sea. Before you buy, ask your clearing agent to confirm the current import and registration requirements for your chosen truck.
