Scania Truck Prices in Kenya

Scania Truck Prices in Kenya

That’s because the scania truck price in Kenya comes down to the truck in front of you, not the badge on the grille. Series, age, mileage, axles, engine, Euro standard and service history all move the number, so two Scanias from the same year can be priced very differently.

In shortThere’s no price list for used Scanias. You’re pricing one truck, with its own history.Read the badge. P360 means a P cab and roughly 360 horsepower; R450, an R cab with around 450.Kenya’s import age rules are strict and have shifted recently. Confirm eligibility with KEBS before you commit.

The 7 factors that drive used Scania prices:

  • Scania series (P, G or R)
  • Age and year of first registration
  • Mileage
  • Axle configuration
  • Engine power and specification
  • Euro emission standard
  • Service history, maintenance and overall condition

Why do used Scania prices vary so much?

Because no two used trucks have lived the same life. Take two R450s registered the same year: one with lower kilometres and full Scania workshop history, the other with higher mileage and gaps in its paperwork.

On paper they’re the same truck. In your yard, they’re not. The first will usually cost more to buy and less to run.

Which factors drive the Scania truck price in Kenya?

1. Does the Scania series (P, G or R) affect the price?

Yes. The series tells you the cab size and the work the truck was built for. A bigger, better-equipped cab tends to add to the price.

Buyer tip: Pay for the cab your drivers need. A sleeper earns its keep on long runs, less so on site work.

Scania seriesTypical applicationKey characteristicsWhat buyers should consider
P SeriesTown deliveries, building sites, tippers and tankersLow, compact cab that’s easy to climb in and out of all dayFine for short trips. Drivers may not thank you for it on a two-day run
G SeriesRegional work, construction, a bit of everythingSits between P and R on cab height and spaceG cabs come in several heights, so ask which one you’re getting
R SeriesLong-distance haulage, usually as a tractor unitRoomy cab, often with a bedYou’ll pay more, which only makes sense if the work is long-haul

2. How much does age and year of first registration matter?

A lot, and in Kenya it matters twice. Look at the V5C, the UK logbook: the year of first registration is printed there, and it may not match the year the truck was built. For Kenya, that date also decides whether you can bring the truck in at all.

Buyer tip: Get a photo of the V5C before you start haggling. If the date is wrong for KEBS, the price is irrelevant.

3. How does mileage change the value?

Low mileage pushes the price up, as you’d expect. Even so, we’d often rather sell you a high-miler with a thick folder of invoices than a low-miler with nothing to show for its past.

Buyer tip: Line the odometer up against the MOT history. And ask whether it’s counting kilometres or miles, because UK trucks use both.

4. Why does axle configuration affect price?

Axle configuration counts wheel positions and driven wheels. A 6×4, the double diff, drives four of six; a 6×2 drives two. More driven axles add traction and usually add cost.

Buyer tip: Many UK tractor units are 6x2s. If your routes involve murram or site access, look at 6x4s.

5. How do engine power and specification affect price?

More horsepower usually means more money. Then there’s what’s bolted on: an automated gearbox, a retarder, tipping hydraulics, a better cab pack. Each one adds to the bill, which is how two 450 hp trucks end up with very different price tags.

Buyer tip: Match power to your loads and gradients, and ask for a full spec sheet.

6. What does the Euro standard mean for buyers?

A Euro standard is a European limit on exhaust emissions. Each step allowed fewer pollutants:

  • Euro 3: older, simpler engines with little exhaust after-treatment.
  • Euro 4 and Euro 5: tighter limits. Plenty of engines from this era use SCR, a system that cleans the exhaust using AdBlue.
  • Euro 6: the toughest limits of the four. Expect more sensors and exhaust kit, and a newer truck.

Buyer tip: Check the after-treatment shows no fault codes and that AdBlue and parts are available on your routes. A Euro level alone doesn’t make a truck eligible for Kenya.

7. Why do service history and condition matter so much?

Service history is the record of maintenance and repairs. UK heavy goods vehicles also take an annual MOT test, leaving a record of past results. Full records usually command a higher price.

Buyer tip: Before any deposit, get the MOT history, service invoices, chassis and tyre photos, and a cold-start video.

How much is a Scania P360 in Kenya?

The scania p360 price in Kenya follows the same seven factors, plus the body. Many P360s are tippers or tankers, so inspect the body as closely as the chassis. When comparing it with a G-series or R450, compare cost per job, not just purchase price.

What are Kenya’s import rules for used trucks?

We last checked these against KEBS and KRA sources on 1 October 2026. Kenyan rules move, so use this as a guide only:

  • KEBS works to KS 1515:2000. Under it, a used vehicle can’t be more than eight years old, counted from the year of first registration.
  • Under a KEBS notice reported in November 2025, only right-hand drive vehicles first registered from 1 January 2019 onwards could be imported from 1 January 2026. The cut-off has moved forward year by year.
  • Vehicles arriving without a Certificate of Roadworthiness go to destination inspection.
  • In 2022, KEBS announced stricter limits on used rigid trucks and tractor heads, but a court suspended that notice. We couldn’t confirm from official sources how heavy commercial vehicles are treated today.

Before you pay or ship, confirm the specific vehicle’s eligibility directly with the Kenya Bureau of Standards. See its public notice on used motor vehicles.

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of a used Scania truck in Kenya?

It depends on the truck. Series, age, mileage, axles, engine, Euro standard and condition all count, and import costs come on top. Ask RPC Trading to price a specific UK truck for you.

What does P360 mean on a Scania?

The letter is the cab series and the number is roughly the engine’s horsepower. A P360 is a P-series cab with an engine of around 360 hp.

Scania P360 vs R450: what is the difference?

The R450 has a larger R-series cab and roughly 90 hp more. It’s usually specced for long-haul, while P360s are common on distribution, construction, tippers and tankers. Which suits you comes down to what you haul, where, and how far.

Which Scania series is best for Kenya: P, G or R?

None of them, across the board. A P is happy on short-haul and site work, an R earns its money on long-haul, and the G sits between. Buy for the work you actually do.

Can I import a used Scania tractor unit into Kenya?

Possibly. KEBS sets an age limit based on year of first registration, and the rules on heavy trucks have shifted before. Get KEBS to confirm the specific truck before any money changes hands.

What documents should I ask for when buying a used Scania from the UK?

The V5C, MOT history, service invoices and a full specification. Also check who arranges the Certificate of Roadworthiness.

Summary

The price of a used Scania in Kenya is set by the truck, not the model name. Series, year of first registration, mileage, axles, engine, Euro standard and service history explain why same-year Scanias differ widely in price. Confirm import eligibility with KEBS before buying.
